Icom GM600 GMDSS VHF Transceiver with Class A DSC

The Icom GM600 is designed for use by vessels that are SOLAS-regulated. It is a marine VHF transceiver designed for Class A DSC operation. Alone, it is a complete GMDSS VHF communication system. When used alongside the Icom GM800 MF/HF radio, both radios combine to provide a complete GMDSS VHF, MF and HF radio station.

Vessel operators gain immediate SOLAS compliance with the GM600. The device meets the UK Marine Equipment Regulation (MER) “Red Ensign” Mark and the EU’s Marine Equipment Directive (MED) 2014/90/EU “Wheel Mark”.

With Class A DSC, the dedicated DSC watch-keeping receiver continuously monitors DSC calling channel 70. A total of 100 MMSI numbers for DSC calling (Individual ID: 75, Group: 25) can be stored with a 10-character ID name. Using the DSC task mode feature provides straightforward DSC operation.

The GM600 is also ruggedly built for life at sea, and it provides loud and clear audio. The front panel is IPX7 waterproof rated for submersion at 1 m depth of water for 30 minutes. The rear panel also has a corrosion resistance coating. The in-built speaker is waterproof and delivers very clear audio for normal use. The unit can also deliver 10 W of power to an external speaker if required.

The device’s display is also easy to read and the controls are easy to operate. The GM600 features a 4.3 inch wide display with a wide viewing angle and high resolution character display with good readability in all conditions. Controls are intuitive to operate with a clearly labelled keypad.

The GM600 also features a PS-310 DC-DC converter that supplies a stable, interruption-protected 12.6 V of power from a 12 V or 24 V source and a floating ground connection. This is required for MER/MED certification compliance.
