Icom GM800 GMDSS MF/HF Marine Transceiver with Class A DSC

The Icom GM800 is a high-end MF/HF radio station for SOLAS-regulated vessels that operate in international waters. It is designed for Class A DSC operation. Alone, it is used to create a complete GMDSS MF/HF communication system on a bridge. Fitted together with the Icom GM600 VHF radio, both radios create a complete GMDSS VHF, MF and HF bridge radio station.

The GM800 meets the UK Marine Equipment Regulation (MER) “Red Ensign mark” and the EU’s Marine Equipment Directive (MED) “wheel mark”. Vessel operators and their crews benefit from high-end, dependable safety communications and SOLAS compliance with the GM800.

With Class A DSC in operation, the dedicated DSC watch-keeping receiver continuously scans the six distress channels in rotation. A total of 100 MMSI numbers for DSC calls can be stored, and the DSC multitask function shows up to seven DSC procedures. The GM800 can also be used to send a distress relay call.

The GM800 is built for durability and is dependable in all conditions.  The front panel is IPX7 waterproof rated for submersion at 1 m depth of water for 30 minutes. The rear panel also has a corrosion resistance coating for an extended life. The GM800 features a 4.3 inch wide TFT LCD display with a wide viewing angle and high-resolution clear display with nighttime readability.

The GM800 also fits in conveniently on a ship’s deck. The device’s waterproof remote head can be neatly installed on a bridge while the ‘black box’ controller is installed elsewhere in a convenient location. The in-built speaker also delivers very clear audio.

Other features on the GM800: Remote distress alarm, printer connector (Centronics IEEE1284), IEC 61162-1 interface for GNSS receiver, 125W* (PEP) output power (tuner-output) and built-in 24 V DC-DC converter.
